It all started a few years ago when I bought my husband the Away Bigger Carry-on for work travel. It was one of those gifts he didn’t know he needed. Not only is it brilliant in its layout, thanks to the company designing a product based on the feedback from travelers. But it also has an ejectable battery system so that you can charge your electronics – perfect for business travelers.
It also drives like a luxury SUV.
Have you ever been in an airport and struggled with a suitcase that keeps toppling? Never again with this sturdy, thoughtfully designed gem.
Because my husband loved this suitcase so much, I then bought my husband the Away Medium suitcase. Just like its Carry-on counterpart, the suitcase blew us away with its intelligent packing design. It doesn’t look like it, but you can fit a whole lot into that thoughtfully designed space.
The real test was when I bought my DAD the Away Medium suitcase for his birthday. My dad – the ULTIMATE bag guy is the judge of all judges when it comes to a suitcase. His verdict? Amazing. In fact, my parents bought his and her Away Travel suitcases, they loved it so much.
It was then I knew Away Travel is the best suitcase for families. I mean, if it gets a thumbs up by my Dad, it has a gold stamp of approval.
Let’s talk about the Away Travel suitcase’s functionality. Though the products vary in size and options, they all have one thing in common. They are thoughtfully designed based on real travelers’ feedback.
Unlike traditional suitcases that load in from the top, this brand designs its products to have two halves, which hold quite a lot and have an interior compression system to maximize space. This is key when packing for multiple kids!
The halves make it so you can separate shoes on one side and clothes on the other, or separate your packing however you like. Organization when packing for three kids is paramount. The Away Travel suitcase is the best when it comes to thoughtful organization.
The 360-degree wheels make the suitcases drive like a luxury car. Even my kids can drive it!
The Carry-on and the Bigger Carry-on have power packs so you can charge your electronics on the go.
All of the Away Travel suitcases are the best I have seen in being sleek and stylish for the savvy family traveler. Even better, they come in a variety of gorgeous colors and materials, including a polycarbonate Hard Side, nylon Expandable soft side, and Aluminum to choose from. Some of the styles include add ons like front pockets for travelers who like that extra space.
For the incredible, durable, and beautiful suitcases, the Away Travel suitcases are very reasonably priced. Ranging from $195 on the low end to $595 for the largest Aluminum size, this luggage is very reasonably priced.
The average price for an Away Travel suitcase is around $295, very comparable to other brands. But I would argue is more value for the money, given its functionality, style, and durability. Price, plus functionality, and stylish? Just another reason Away Travel is the best suitcase brand in my opinion.
The Away Travel suitcases are built to be durable and sustain the wear and tear of airline travel. The nylon Expandable style is water-resistant. And, all of the Away suitcases are guaranteed for life.
Now, one of my parents’ Hard Side polycarbonate suitcases actually did crack after a recent flight.
But, the Away Travel company stands by their brand so much, they immediately replaced the suitcase with no questions asked. Since the suitcase was replaced, we have had no further issues. That level of commitment and customer service also speaks to why Away Travel is the best suitcase for my familiy.
Another one of my favorite features about the Away Travel suitcases is the variety of options. With multiple sizes – including a KIDS CARRY ON – different types of materials, and different colors, there is something suitable for every travel need and for every member of the family.
The traditional Hard Side suitcases are made out of a polycarbonate shell that is hard and sturdy but also flexible for maximum packing capacity. The Expandables styles are made out of woven nylon fabric with a built-in zipper to further increase packing capacity. The Aluminium collection is gorgeous in color and style, but it will ding and show wear and tear, for the traveler who likes to showcase a well-traveled suitcase.
In addition to the traditional suitcases, Away Travel also makes a variety of other bags like shoulder bags and backpacks. Equally as stylish, versatile, and durable, you can create a lovely collection of travel luggage for every travel need.
One of the things I most appreciate is that Away Travel stands by their brand so much, that you have 100 days to try it out. If you don’t like it, you can return it for a refund or exchange (unless it is personalized.) It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty! If anything breaks, they will fix it for you.
While I could honestly write about each of the Away Travel products, here are my favorites for family travel.
The Away Medium is actually a great size for packing for one or two adults or for two to three kids’ clothes. Depending on how much you pack, and for what season, you can fit in quite a lot into this suitcase. This checked bag is ideal for a week-long vacation.
The Away Medium Comes in the traditional Hard Side polycarbonate shell, the Expandable nylon, and the Aluminum styles.
The Away Bigger Carry-on is actually a great size for a business trip or a long weekend trip. It fits in the overhead, so it doesn’t need to be checked, and it has a removable battery so you can charge your electronics with it!
The Away Bigger Carry-on is my husband’s go-to bag for most of his work travel. It is also a perfect addition to the Away Medium for family travel. Like its bigger counterpart, the Away Bigger Carry-on also comes in the traditional Hard Side polycarbonate shell, the Expandable nylon, and the Aluminum styles.
Even kids deserve to enjoy stylish luggage, right? Away Travel thinks of everything, even our little globetrotters!
This gorgeous kids’ carry-on, which is smaller than the Away Carry-on, but offers the same thoughtful design, interior compression system, and even electable battery so they can charge their electronics on the go. It comes in a variety of fun colors, and even the interior is appealing for kids. It is also light enough for them to pull it themselves!

Smaller than the Bigger Carry-on, this suitcase is ideal for a weekend away or an overnight trip. But, personally, I think it is too small for a longer business trip. If you use it as a true carry-on alongside one of the larger Away travel suitcases, it could also work perfectly.
If you like the features of the Hard Side suitcases and the front pocket of the Expandables, check out the Away Carry-on With Front Pocket. This combines the best of both worlds.
The Hard Side Bigger Carry-on has the electable battery, but the Expandable Bigger Carry-on does not. But, just like I mentioned above, you can combine the best of both worlds with the Away Bigger Carry-on With Front Pocket.
This Away Daily Carry-on would be perfect for the business person who travels for the day. It could also double as a mobile briefcase for certain professions.
The Away Large Suitcase is also a very viable option for family travel. Like its siblings, it is also available in the traditional Hard Side, Expandable, and Aluminum sizes. Because I tend to pack a lot, my suitcases are on the heavier side, so having a very large suitcase adds extra weight.
I tend to prefer the Medium for this reason. But, if you are a light packer but need more space, the Away Large Suitcase would provide all the benefits of the medium with extra space. If you are also heading out for a longer period of time, the Away Large Suitcase option would be great additions to complete your Away Travel collection.
The weight of these bags ranges from approximately 11 lbs to 16 lbs, with the Hard Side being the lightest and Aluminum the heaviest.
The Away Travel collections don’t stop at gorgeous suitcases. If you would like your tote bag, backpack, and toiletry bags to be as stylish and versatile as your suitcases, Away offers a variety of options to complete your look.
From gorgeous duffle bags, day bags, backpacks, totes, and even sling pouches, you can find a variety of options for all of your travel needs.
My favorite? The Weekender!
They also offer a range of packing solutions to maximize the space and utility of all of your Away Travel products. This company truly has thought of everything!
If you are looking for a high quality, sleek and thoughtfully designed suitcase at an even better price, look no further than the Away Travel suitcases for your family travel luggage collection. Not only is it as stylish as it is functional, it is practical, durable, and will last a lifetime. Any of the Away Travel products would make a perfect gift for your favorite globetrotter, and don’t forget to treat yourself!
Help spread the word. You're awesome for doing it!
